Our work speaks for itself

Housing Element Update 2022

As the senior project manager for policy development and community engagement, I helped shape San Francisco’s first Housing Element centered on racial and social equity. I coordinated staff, consultants, and City agencies to connect state housing requirements with local priorities: affordability, displacement, access to opportunity, and the needs of communities historically excluded from housing decisions.

My work included:

  • Managing $1.5 million in grant funding and coordinating consultants and staff across policy, outreach, and technical analysis.

  • Building an engagement process with more than 20 community organizations, including groups led by and serving people of color, and supporting focus groups and conversations that built trust.

  • Translating community priorities into policies on affordable housing, displacement, and a more equitable distribution of housing across neighborhoods.

  • Coordinating housing, economic, geographic, and environmental analysis across agencies and presenting policy choices to decision-makers.

Adopted in January 2023, the Housing Element sets a framework to accommodate 82,069 homes over an eight-year planning period. It pairs housing growth with commitments to racial and social equity, affordable housing, and displacement prevention. My role focused on developing the policies and engagement process before adoption.
